ABOUT selena

Mrs. Selena Rodgers Dickerson is the president of SARCOR, LLC, an engineering design and project management firm, and Selene, LLC which specializes in tracking diverse spending and diverse business solutions. A Birmingham native, Selena is a graduate of Ramsay Alternative High School. She received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Tennessee State University and her Master in Business Administration in Project Management from Capella University. After getting laid off in 2010, Selena knew that she could either look for a job or look for contracts. She chose to search for her own contracts. Through prayer, drive, ambition, and perseverance, Selena grew SARCOR from a one-person firm to a team of engineers and management professionals. Later, she launched other initiatives including Selene, LLC. From 2016 - 2019, Selena owned and operated The Installation at Uptown, LLC, a co-working incubator space in Birmingham’s prominent Uptown District. Now she seeks to help grow and develop other small businesses, raise awareness that minority firms are more than a minority participation goal, and increase the number of successful women and minority-owned businesses launched within the metro Birmingham ecosystem.

Selena is a graduate of SBA’s Emerging Leaders Program, Leadership Birmingham, and a graduate of the Fall 2019 cohort of the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program. In June, Selena had the opportunity to represent small businesses in the State of Alabama as a speaker for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Hill Week where she addressed the concerns of the PPP Loan and EIDL SBA loan as they contributed to the sustainability of small businesses in Alabama and the small business community’s ongoing needs during the global pandemic. Selena is also the recipient of several awards including the Alabama Department of Transportation DBE Consultant of the Year (2017), Summit Media Fusion Creator Award (2018), Birmingham Business Journal’s Entrepreneur Spotlight (2014), and Dr. A.G. Gaston Minority or Woman-Owned Emerging Business of the Year (2013). Additionally, Selena was featured on the PBS nationally televised show, Start Up (October 2014), she serves on several local boards, and she makes time for family, mentoring, volunteering, and community service activities. Selena is an advocate against domestic violence and has published her personal testimony as a domestic violence survivor. She is an active member of Mount Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Fairfield, AL. She is happily married to Juwan Dickerson, and they have a daughter, Allison Marie.
